Well, there's a lot less money at the moment due to constant cuts so some hard decisions have to be made, only time will tell if the right ones are made. I do wonder if there are any right decisions though with the small amount of funding police services are getting. Will they be able to do the job effectively at this point, we shall see if it's possible.

:slex: wow what do you think about Norfolk?
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:31 am
Last month Norfolk Police announced plans to axe all 150 of its PCSOs. In response to a question about keeping them on if they agreed to take pay cuts he said: “If I had all the money in the world I would not hire more PCSOs.” He added: “We need more officers who can investigate, who can be moved around the county, who can be called on at short notice when duty demands. “And PCSOs, as valuable as they have been, don’t offer the flexibility and skills necessary to deal with 21s”.

Well most of the publishers tend to play it safe and offer us the same thing over and over which often works out for them as many are creatures of habit. Independent developers tend to create games that are a lot more original and 'risky'. So for those who are bored of the same old thing and want something new, this is a good place to look and some of them have been very successful with this.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:28 am
So how would an independent have a chance? reminds me of my Aunt who went ahead and self published her "book" when she could not find a publisher
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:28 am
Remasters and remakes are very popular at the moment bringing back games from 10 or 20 years ago with a new lick of paint.
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:27 am
Yep, games cost an absolute fortune to make these days, although the big sellers do fine of course.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:26 am
Sounds like a battle alright, must be a lot of finances there that we don't appreciate
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:26 am
I've been playing a game called Telltale that looks like it was designed for the Commodore 64. Graphics are not the strong point but it is a lot of fun. Interesting to see what developers create when they are independent and don't go through publishers.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:24 am
Yeah I have been exploring Dungeons full blast, it has been amazing fun, any game special for you this Christmas?
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:22 am
That's good right? More time for extra hobbies?
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:22 am
I don't think I've ever had so much time off with so few committments
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:21 am
Yes, was good fun thanks, nice to have a bit of time off and chill out, how about you?
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:20 am
So did you have a great Christmas Lieutenant? :san:
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:19 am
Cutting back on a bit of everything, less vehicles, a lot less buildings, less officers, less staff, etc etc.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:18 am
This from you two years ago

Certainly are some huge cuts coming, can't help but wonder how they'll save all that money.
so now we know the answer? tablets instead of desk computers?
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:17 am
Yes, done it quite a few times now, they do get upset, but it teaches them not to do it again.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:16 am
I really think PCSOs can do some good work here, so your actions can lead to idiot scooter yobs having their vehicles seized for unsocial driving
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:15 am
Yep, brilliant power, very effective. Drives the message home and stops most from doing it again.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:13 am
Well is that the ones where it leads to a car being seized? e.g. bad driving, skidding?
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:13 am
A little bit but they're somewhat similar amounts of paperwork. Section 59 warnings will always be the favourite of course.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:11 am
Issuing tickets is a lot of hard work, even for PNDs, actually did you find the PND one more work than others?
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:09 am
Quite unusual to hear of wasting police time tickets being issued in the Met, I hear they get issued a lot in the US. Not sure what the rarest one is I've given out is, someone theatened me with violence once so he got a PND from me for that.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:06 am
:sltgu: sharp this morning! there are all kinds of tickets PCSOs can issue

Can issue a ticket for wasting police time! That's interesting. Might use that next time someone asks for directions. I jest of course. :)
what's the rarest one you've given out? I would of thought a ticket for wasting police time would be pretty rare but what do you say?
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:06 am
They give you a big pat on the back if you deliver the right shopping to the correct address.
  • falkorSun Dec 31, 2017 10:05 am
Oh right :slby: yeah a good pal of mine left the mET and did just that
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:04 am
I hear delivering supermarket shopping in one of those vans is quite popular these days.
No one is chatting

  •   GOOD NEWS! In February 2017 national-PCSOs gained an SSL certificate!

  • During February 2017 this site began a journey to HTTPS standards, culminating in our SSL certificate and subsequent page by page audit, to check whether every inch of the site met the sometimes excruciating requirements of today's browsers e.g Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc

HTTPS provides authentication of the website and associated web server with which one is communicating, which protects against man-in-the-middle attacks. Additionally, it provides bidirectional encryption of communications between a client and server, which protects against eavesdropping and tampering with or forging the contents of the communication. In practice, this provides a reasonable guarantee that one is communicating with precisely the website that one intended to communicate with, as well as ensuring that the contents of communications between the user and site cannot be read or forged.
