Re: btp free travel??

Sorry to bump a rather old thread but it would be create if someone could let me know what the current latest finish and earliest start is for BTP PCSOs in London? PM is fine if you prefer. I'm looking to commute from Sittingbourne in Kent (if successful applying!), where the last train home from Vi...

Re: Recruitment is back on

Interesting post powdermonkey, the more I think about it the happier I am that I've decided to accept the offer of PCSO training next year - as long as I've got enough money to stay solvent and enjoy life, I'm happy to leave the desk job for something more fulfilling.

Addi564, what did you decide?

Re: Recruitment is back on

Find myself in the same tough spot. Significantly better pay in current (mundane) IT position, but the job satisfaction in an imminent PCSO position will be so much higher... I figure it's better to live without regrets and and give it a shot - I can tolerate a bit less take-home if I'm doing someth...

Re: OH MY GOD, You are a PCSO?!!?!

Occasionally when people find out I get a positive reaction like "wow that must be really exciting", "good on you". Sadly most of the time it's a combination of the ignorant "oh do you get paid for that??" or the equally mis-informed "is it true you can't arrest people?" and "ooh cool... so when are...

Re: MET 10 year saving scheme?

Sorry to hear you're offski. As mentioned above your savings scheme was probably with the Police Mutual Association or the Met Police Friendly society and you should be able to get through to either through their websites. I remember both organisations doing presentations when I was training, I've s...

Re: PCSO Wiggum & the S5 POA PND for urinating in the street

All I am saying is that do not get too hung up about it. If you do not want to give a ticket then don't. The majority of people will pay the ticket anyway, very few argue over it. Ticket office only check the ones that are not paid. No one will know if your evidence is not up to scratch unless it i...

Re: PCSO Wiggum & the S5 POA PND for urinating in the street

I'm inclined to agree with Big Brother on this one - I don't want to give in to "the numbers game" ... The same principles apply to the FPN for cycling on the footway - Home Office guidance states that " The new provisions are not aimed at responsible cyclists who sometimes feel obliged to use the p...

PCSO Wiggum & the S5 POA PND for urinating in the street

On my borough, we aren't empowered to enforce the byelaw offence of "urinating in the street". So to make do some of the PCSOs utilise the Section 5 Public Order Act ticket happily if they catch someone taking a pee in the street (behind a tree, lonely alleyeway, anywhere). Is this an appropriate im...

Life as a Security PCSO?

Hello my esteemed colleagues! I'm becoming increasingly interested in moving to be a Security PCSO in Westminster. I really crave a change from the surveys, meetings, pressure from performance indicators and certain other soul-eating factors in my ward (and I won't lie, the extra London weighting an...

I just can't believe even the Chuckle Brothers are scoring points off us! It's a new low.

On the flip side this could be the PCSO equivalent of The Thin Blue Line

Throat mic - any good?

With all this single patrolling business, i'm considering getting myself a throat mic to give me a bit more freedom dealing with naughty customers. A candidate for purchase is: http://www.niton999.co.uk/products.expanded.asp?product=3329&querycategory=Earpieces&querybrandname=&querysubcategory=&sear...

Re: PACE Review by HO

We all use NASCH+. Written in our pocket books, we then write out the 5090 at the nick, and enter it on the stops database. Do you tend to record the SDE code as "NR" (Not Recorded) when filling out the 5090 back at the station? Just wondering, I'm still learning the ropes and looking at different ...
