Re: Recruitment is back on

The PCSO role is a satisfying career, I have ben doing this for 11 years. It is constantly evolving and not always for the better.

I am pleased that the recruitment has been resumed, what area are you?

Not a chance on the taser. The regulars will get them first, but only firearm officers. If the cops dont get them we have no chance. Also I would not want it, cuffs and a baton, for personal defence only. If we need tasers or spray then we are out of our depth and getting into stuff the regulars sho...

For all MEt PCSOs, we heard from the man himself today, that within the MET the agreement struck with the federation for the introduction of PCSOs was that the chequered hatband is banned and not negotiable. That is the end of the debate for MET PCSOs.

Mark, if you could get a picture of yourself in uniform and post it it would help us greatly. A chequered hat band and a cap badge the same as the regulars, you are having a laugh, it would nmake life easier for all of us and remove so many of the petty gripes we all hear from collweagues. You are a...

I have read this thread before and again today with increased interest. Yes we can back off, yes we are not confrontational, yes we take a abuse from the yobs for just being there, BUT....... Can we always back away, can you not visualise a situation where you just cannot, where you must do somethin...

I must admit that I find it frustrating when people mistake me for a traffic warden, especially as most of the ones I see are scruffy devils. Just enough to make us distinct would be nice, but I suppose - like everything else I find to gripe about in this job - it will change in time, and I do enjoy...

I wholeheartedly agree that the hat band should be chequered and if a distinction needs to be made then it could be blue and silver rather than black and white, to my mind it is the check that makes the distinction and not so much the colour. As for the forum, it is a Met thing, and whoever set it u...

I too am in the Met and have now been trained in the use of handcuffs and have had practice in using the baton. Now whilst I appreciate that I work in a reputedly safe borough there are times I believe that carrying such equipment would be an effective deterent
