Re: Community Resolution - Changing the PCSO role

CSOs are not allowed to issue a community resolution in Northumbria. I only ever use them for first time offenders i.e. kiddie shoplifters, assaults etc. It would be frowned upon to use a community resolution if the offender is already in the criminal justice system. As for a youth still having to ...

Re: Community Resolution - Changing the PCSO role

In Sussex PCSOs dont need authoity from a PC or a signature from a PC. They caution the person and they take full details on the form. It is classed as a detection. Having said that, they usually give a skipper a call to see if they are happy and agree with that as a disposal option. It is very new ...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

Jimmy, you are obviously keen to be a police officer, I see no problem with that and as soon as recruiting starts again I think you really must apply. I wish you well. However, in the meantime just do the job of the PCSO. As it stands it looks like you are hoping that the PCSO role will evolve into...

Re: are you issued with a body camera?

Have taken a headcam out before and they are fantastic. You look like a plonker, but the evidence it captures has resolved numerous false allegations against officers. Worth their weight in gold. Just remember that you should switch the camera off after the incident BUT before you go to the toilet! ...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

Im not so sure really. Since the days of Robert Peel police officers have always been issued with a truncheon. Indeed, the Thames river police which predate the modern peelers were armed with cutlasses. Even the “Charlies” of the late 1600s were armed with a rattle and large stick. I’m talking abou...

Re: PCSOs taking part in Warrants

Generally PCSOs dont write statements because they have nothing significant to put in them as they dont seize, use force, question occupants etc. But on occasion, when something evidential or significant happens and they are right there, then they will write a statement and that will be disclosed an...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

The police SMT are very keen to get involved in the stats game (despite there being no official stats required by the home office). If they had their way, there would be no foot patrol at all. It would all be about how fast we arrived on scene, how many arrests, how many detections, how many positiv...

Re: PCSOs taking part in Warrants

Yeah agreed, PCSOs should not be physically searching, or seizing. Dont think anyone is disputing that? Maybe I missed a post.. We have PCSOs on a lot of our warrants, especially cannabis factories. The defence are always aware of who is at scene simply from the officers MG11 statements. All officer...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

I think Anthill has summed it up nicely. Depending on where you work, the likelihood of walking in to confrontation, unintentionally, if very different. Many people on this forum will work in areas of low crime and disorder. Others will work in high crime areas, where disorder is rife. Yes, of cours...

Re: PCSOs taking part in Warrants

Steve is right in terms of exhibit handling and continuity. A case can be thrown out if the continuity is not maintained. Correct. Not something that i disputed. My point was with regards to PCSOs helping to take stuff to the van, drawing floor plans, taking notes etc., not handling exhibits, seizin...

Re: PCSOs taking part in Warrants

Jimmy_bobby PCSOs have no powers to search for stuff on s.18's or drugs/stolen gear warrants, BUT there is nothing to say they cannot enter with the PCs and help with taking notes, carrying stuff to the van etc. If one of the occupants asks them to leave, then I suppose they would have to, but it's...

Re: PCSOs taking part in Warrants

Right, this is really simple, despite some making it more difficult then it needs to be. PCSOs have no powers to search for stuff on s.18's or drugs/stolen gear warrants, BUT there is nothing to say they cannot enter with the PCs and help with taking notes, carrying stuff to the van etc. If one of t...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

So as a matter of interest do you think that having a baton and CS would command EVEN more respect? Repsect comes really from how you deal with people. Having PPE doesnt really make much difference. From experience I know that there are those people who wouldnt respect a cop if he was armed with a ...

Re: PCSO's are the new Police Officers, give us proper PPE!!

Lets look at Marlon's posts on this thread.... I’m not going to apologise for singling you out here Marlon, I’m getting pretty bored of you hijacking posts with negative, pointless, unconstructive, questioning and criticisms. :slsp: :slsp: :slzip: You're simply incorrect with many of the things you...
