Three men arrested after police officer is stabbed 'multiple times'
Three men have been arrested after a police officer was stabbed 'multiple times', Scotland Yard said today.
The plain clothes officer, aged in his 30s, was knifed after stopping a group of young men in the street last night. He was rushed to hospital following the attack in Waddon, near Croydon, south London, last night and today his condition was described as stable. A police spokesman said three 18-year-old men had been arrested following the attack and they were being held at separate south London police stations.
An ambulance was called to the scene and later took the injured officer to south London hospital. The officer, based in the Croydon borough, was part of the Metropolitan Police's 'proactive plain clothes patrol'.
A police spokesman said: 'Police were alerted at approx 9.45pm last night to a police officer assaulted in Waddon. 'London Ambulance Service also attended and the officer was treated for stab wounds. The officer injured is a male Pc based on Croydon Borough. He is aged in his 30s. He was on a proactive, plain clothes patrol with colleagues in the area and had stopped a group of male teenagers when the suspect - one of the teenagers - stabbed him. Three 18-year-old men have been arrested in connection with the incident. They remain in custody at separate south London police stations.'
