10 October 2011
Surrey Police officers join cyclists on Cycling Weekly event
TWO officers from Surrey Police joined in the Cycling Weekly sportive yesterday, Sunday 9 October, at Box Hill, the key focus for next year’s Olympic Cycling Road Race.

PC Jason Woods and PCSO Rebecca Black embraced the opportunity offered by Cycling Weekly, one of the UK’s leading cycling magazines, to ride with the editorial team and others on a 77 mile sportive around the Surrey Hills.

Jason, a Safer Neighbourhood Officer, is an enthusiastic cyclist, as well as a qualified cycle instructor who runs training sessions for police officers and staff. He competed in the Etape Du Tour in 2009 and followed some of the key stages of the Tour de France this year; while Rebecca is a keen tri-athlete who can regularly be seen on the beat on her police issued Smith and Wesson cycle.

Inspector Terri Poulton said: “Engaging with all groups in our community is a key role for all our neighbourhood officers and I am delighted that we can experience, at first hand, the issues from a cyclist’s perspective particularly during sportive events, which have been on the increase in Surrey since the announcement of the Olympic Road Race.

“Safety is always our prime concern and any experiences we can gather will enable us to make informed decisions when dealing with road safety and community matters, particularly in the run up to 2012.

I have observed that all serious cyclists look as if they are hollow-boned aliens who were born on a low gravity planet.

I look more like this...

Has the PCSO been told he's commiting a horty offence, nearside head light n/s as i looks like there should be two headlamps, I am not a motorbike person so i don't know if you tend to have just one or can switch them on/off independantly?
