It is not Boris that you want on our side it is the MPA, and as they will have to pay TFL for you to travel free, like the MPS pay for police officers to do it will not happen, and why should it, if a pokice officer travels for free and anything happens he is required to act, if you travel free and something happens you can only act as a MOP not a PCSO, so you have the same power as an office worker and the same choice to help or not, if a meber of Sainsburys helps out does that entitle all retail staff to have free travel

The simple answer is we will never get free travel, we do not need it we may like to have it who would not, the union will ask for it every year like they have since we first started, and the reps we tell you each year in training how close they are to getting it just to get you to join the union an as for Livinstone if he wanted us to have it he had over 5 years to give the money to the MPA to do it any one can promiss you anything IF they were in power untill they get there and have a change of mind

even off duty i will be a trained member of the police who can give first aid treatment and a professional statement should anything happen, plus a survey was conducted which concluded that members of the public felt we should get free travel as it would make them feel safer.
and while i understand the mayor cannot fund the scheme his backing for it would be a huge influence over wether we had it or not.

I would imagine you would get free travel, so long as you were in uniform, and not in civvies just travelling to & from work, even in Devon & Cornwall Police we get free travel on the Service buses & School Transport links but you must be uniform.

You are not taught first aid ELS may help in some cases but it is not first aid, before I joined as a PCSO I had first aid at work certificate but did not ask for free travel on the off chance there maybe an accident there is no reason that we should have it, we only want it because the police have it not good enough reason sorry

Met PSD have launched an internal enquiry after BTP caught loads of Met off duty PCSO's using their ID for travel on mainline trains, and were given £20 FPN's by the railway.

It'd be NICE if we got free travel, but we won't get it. Im happy enough with bus travel, if you have to commute ages to get into your borough, maybe you should live closer. For Hendon its only 6 weeks, i knew people coming from right down the coast in Kent so they felt the full wrath of paying fares!

I think everyone young and old should get free travel. Forget about being a police officer or a PCSO. Lets leave our cars at home and save the world from polution. Lets all get the bus or train to work, better for the enviroment i think.

With regards to Police Staff or PCSO's having free transport its good publicity and more importantly have extra eyes and ears on the trains, tubes is top priorty these days.

The fact an officer (PCSO) has an option if he gets involved is neither here or there. We live in a world where people want to cause us harm. we need as many officers/staff on the trains/tubes being our eyes and ears.

Folks you need to think outside the box here. Think what the benefits this could bring, think what extra security this could bring and think to your self who would you rather see on the trains or tubes?

Not sure why some folks are against some PCSO's getting free travel maybe they fear there travel will get taken away.....

IT is not, not wanting free travel it is the need for free travel all the arguments are if we had free travel we could do this or that we could do it even if we paid, I know plenty of PCSOs who will not use their free bus travel and moan that they want free tube travel for their days off. If you pay on a bus will you not still pay on the tube??

I'd be very surprised if Ken gave the go ahead long after leaving office.

More importantly - the trains and tubes aren't under the Mayor's command. The Met are the ones that would have to start negotiating that. At the moment the Met pays millions of pounds for PCs to have the privilege, and has to negotiate hard every year to keep it.

The train companies agree both because of the money, and the fact that Police Officers can take action off duty. Which happens on a regular basis.

Because where do you draw the line? You could use that argument that any number of people should get free travel to ensure a safer environment to travel in, so does that mean that you include bouncers, shop security, martial arts specialists, soldiers, etc. Also not quite sure how letting Police staff travel for free is good publicity, why not let all council workers travel for free.

Very early on in my career I learned when it was appropriate to declare myself on or off duty and I certainly would not accept free travel on the back of my job.
