new MET POLICE lost property rules 2014

From the 1st September 2014, the MET introduced a new, streamlined approach to the service they provide in respects to lost & found property. Their new approach has been devised having consulted widely with their staff, partners and the public.
  • From the above date, the MET will:
  • No longer formally record or issue lost property reference numbers.
  • Only take in found property in limited circumstances.
  • Continue to provide the best advice possible, including signposting you to other organisations who would be better placed to assist.
For further information please download the lost property guide found under “Related publications”.
If you have been directed to report lost property to the police by your insurance company or service provider please download the lost property letter found under “Related publications” which confirms that the Metropolitan Police Service no longer provides reference numbers in these circumstances.
If you lose any item which is dangerous and could cause risk of harm, please contact us immediately on 999
