MP says she wants police out and about instead of being sat in police stations

Any other 'PCSO issues' that do not fit in to the other forums. Recruitment of PCSOs, day to day PCSO duties, questions about law, joining the regular police, becoming a special, anything else remotely PCSO orientated!!

MP says she wants police out and about instead of being sat in police stations

Post by falkor » Sat Oct 10, 2015 10:12 am

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle Price has given her reaction to the huge cuts being made to policing in Essex, The MP said she wants police out and about instead of of being sat in stations, and said it was “cynical scaremongering” to suggest people should fear for their safety.
She said: "The Police like every public service needs to do things smarter so that we get good service with value for money.

“I want police officers out and about not sitting in police stations so it is sensible to rationalise the estate, particularly when fewer people attend stations to report crime these days. To suggest people should be fearful of their safety is cynical scaremongering. Earlier today Essex Police announced it was to close and sell of Tilbury and South Ockendon stations and reduce the number of PCSO’s in the borough from 38 to six.
They also announced Grays station will remain open to the public seven days a week from 9am-5pm. Corringham station, which closed to the public in 2011, will now be sold as well.

From Wikipedia: Doyle-Price stood unsuccessfully as the Conservative candidate for Sheffield Hillsborough in the 2005 general election, coming third with 15.02% of the vote.

She was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Thurrock at the 2010 General Election, by a majority of 92 (0.2%) after two recounts. In May 2015, she retained her seat with a majority of 536 after a recount

Hmmmm
Cut Budgets, reduce the number of Officers with little or no chance of replacement.
Expect Officers to be out on the street......No offence to our PC colleagues but when was the last time they had the time to be on the streets.
This whole situation is dangerous and soon there will be more tragedies due to lack of staff.
The government need to wake up and smell the roses.

This woman needs to get herself down to her local police station and see just how many PC's & PCSO's are parading on each shift, how many jobs and what types they go to, and how many are sat in the office when they could be on the street. If they're in the office & it's not a meal break, it'll be for statements, creating computer records for the incidents they've gone to, booking in prisoners, interviewing etc. She also needs to see just how many staff work through their meal breaks and how many times they take a shorter meal break than is their due, how many times it's cut short to turn out to an urgent job, how many start doing work before the shift starts and how often they're retained on duty or otherwise late finishing.

Then she an stand up and pontificate but do so from knowledge and not ignorance.

Should people fear for their safety? To an extent, yes. Why? Because police numbers have dropped and courts don't give proper sentences anymore. All that is a result of the Tory cuts and years of mismanagement by all parties. If she, and other politicians are so good and have the answers, then why is this country so fucked up?
I have seen the truth and it makes no sense.

I am all for a safer society, one thing I won't accept is that police stations are populated by officers with integrity and a sense of purpose.
There are some right idle bastards on good money doing as little as humanly possible.
We can all post as if we were surrounded by beacons of justice but it is false. The idea that ever officer is swamped by impossible workloads is a total myth. You know it, I know it. Let's not get too high minded about this please. A little honesty doesn't hurt does it?

AGREED. Unfortunately going along your road could be seen to gloss over the tremendously good work and marvellous dedication of the other PCSOs who actually do put the effort in, but putting that to one side for just one minute, who do we lay the blame on for those “on good money doing as little as humanly possible?” Are they alone culpable? No! not all all, SGTs are paid even “gooder money” than the good money you say the right idle bastards are on, are the SGTs earning their gooder money? You can hardly look much higher because the Inspector will say, “I rely on my SGTs” and so they should. What are SGTs doing to motivate their team? Are they sitting back letting one day merge into the next? If not how can your right idle bastards get away with it week after week? Month after month? Are they supervised? Or not? Do the SGTs know who the the right idle bastards are? If not, why not? Of course it is not as simple as that unfortunately. SGTs who do try and change things on a team, SGTs who do challenge the right idle bastards are not always supported by their team and come to that even by their own Insp to the degree that you would have thought would be automatic. Not always! So the picture is far from simple or easy! Food for thought maybe! Bon, a brave post matie!!
